When you look at the album cover it tells that this cd might hold something interesting inside it. Two men who operate a big machine, covered in dirt but still doing their job and still enjoying it. Behind the album there are two masked men, so the men on the front are not the band members?
The album starts with a blast of fast ebm that goes with a great tempo, do I want to dance? Yes. The song is a bit repetitive and but the vocals make it enjoyable to listen over and over again. Although I do not understand what the song is about, but I searched the title "Kela" and this came up "the Social Insurance Institution of Finland". I think they have a bone to pick with the institution.
The following song "Sööri" introduces a more synth based style, yet another boot stomping song. I found out that they have a very characteristic sound on the basslines that differ from what I have heard on different ebm bands. It has a polished and smooth sound, an opposite to many other bands without the "grungy or noisy effect". If you have a good sound system or headphones you will come to love this difference.
This album has many different songs when you consider the style they are made by. Solid oldschool, hints of newschool, some experiments with harsher sound, punk styled (on the beginning of one song the singer clears his throat so that tells about the punk attitude) and some smoother songs.
The songs are not that long (around 3 minutes or so etc.), but you can hit repeat can´t you? This album is like a careful approach, taking things smoothly and calculatedly with good elements (I think I hear a drill sample in one song). I believe we can hear some songs on clubs and hopefully see the band on live gigs aswell. Interesting album, not the top 5 out of 5 but near 4 on my personal scale (3,7).
Will there be another album some day? I sure hope so because it would be interesting to see where they can go with with their (komplex) style and ideas.
