With “Wir sind glücklich” (We Are Happy), Stahlnetz released a minimalist, cold yet astonishingly emotional work in 1981 that drew deeply from the post-punk and NDW subculture of the early 1980s. This now iconic and much regarded classic of Minimal Electro was recorded with and produced by legendary producer legend Conny Plank (Kraftwerk, Neu!, Eurythmics, Ultravox...), and has become a really legendary release of early electro in Germany.

More than four decades later, the album is now being released in a lovingly remastered version by Young & Cold Records – and sounds more relevant than ever: Cold sound, hot topics!

Even the title of the album – Wir sind glücklich – seems like a sarcastic provocation given the depth of the songs' contents. The emotionally undercooled synthesizer pads, dry drum machines and spoken-word vocals create a sound that is both haunting and the perfect ‘food’ for the clubs and playlists of young dark wave fans today. Particularly striking: several tracks deal with topics that have lost none of their relevance in 2025. Remastered with finesse: The new edition on Young & Cold Records impresses not only with its sonic clarity, but also with its respectful treatment of the original material. The analogue charm remains intact, but the remaster brings more depth to the bass, better definition to the vocals and an overall more balanced dynamic. A classic of its genre!
