“RiPerbahn” sounds in the truest tradition of the band. It again mixes very explicit psy-trance elements together with EBM. The sound will more appeal for psy-trance lovers, but it first of all appeals for electro freaks with an open-minded vision on music. The EP features 12 tracks, with 7 versions of the title song.
The “Original” version of “RiPerbahn” is a peculiar mix of psy-trance and EBM. The heavy kick clearly invites the listeners to join the dancefloor. Among the different remixes the “Cutoff:Sky Club Mix” is much more powerful and a real attention grabber. I didn’t exactly expect Ad Inferna remixing R.I.P., but they did a real good job. The debut of their remix even reminds me to the Godfather of psy-trance (cf. Juno Reactor). Vigilante is another rather surprising choice, but the addition of guitars sounds original and terrific. One more remix to mention is rather hardcore-like remix of Archie L getting the BPM’s up to 160.
Among the other tracks left there’s the brilliant “Don’t Kill Yourself”. This is an amazing piece of music revealing the real and purest psy-trance influences of both DJ’s. The bass line sounds gorgeous while Russian sampled parts add a little touch of mystery. Another amazing cut is “Hard Times” –originally featured on the album “Hard Times… No Future”, remixed by DF Dance. We once more get a fine selection of astral bleeps and a furious dance tempo.
Conclusion: R.I.P. is once more confirming its atypical sound, being too trance-like for real EBM-lovers and less trance-like for the goa-trance die-hard freaks. R.I.P. is once more moving in between and again they did with brilliance, intelligence and success!
