Mother Motor - Night Shark (CD)

Finally – the second Mother Motor album surfaces. Night Shark turned out extremely electronic and dance oriented at the core and has no real relation to the sea creature carrying the same name. In fact it’s all about the tension between projection and reception in our behavior during night life when we go out to be seen and how others perceive oneself. Minimizing vocals to the max is what’s obviously the secret ingredient on all the tracks of this production, so the essence of the lyrics can stand out while still leaving enough room for interpretation. Really strange: Almost all the tracks have already a corresponding video to watch on YouTube to “spread the word”.

Pushing tracks are certainly “Burn!” and “Groove Defeat One”. A little more dance floor oriented is “Don’t Talk – Just Dance!” – a mantra to be obeyed. There’s no clear differentiation anymore between the merged styles of EBM and EDM, despite the fact that Harald Schoger’s background (synthpop and electronic body music) can’t be denied at any time. Even a ballade has sneaked in somehow to the 13-trackrelease, with “Counting Stars & Chasing Clouds” how bizarre, since a track dealing with longing, heart break and rejection seems misplaced on this release.

Harald makes it work. A goodie has bee added as well: Johann Rückel (DJ) has contributed the music to “Humans” on this release and that track really gives us a flashback on the good old 80ies club times. With the reworked version of “Ich” (a former “Das Kombinat – lomographic” track, that’s still as of today is the highest-ranking stream from the label’s portfolio), Harald added a humble monument to Sil’s early passing away.
