Tension Control - Freiheit (CD)

With their new album Freiheit, TENSION CONTROL opens a new chapter in the history of Electronic Body Music. Between massive synth sequences and gritty vocals unfolds a work that looks deep into the past, into the workings of a state that no longer exists. Inspired by personal experiences of childhood and youth in the former GDR, as well as by the memories and fractures of entire generations of young people in the German Democratic Republic: grey streets, towering walls, planned economy , prohibitions and control by an authoritarian state – but also pragmatic optimism, the search for freedom, rebellion, and resistance both large and small.

Yet Freiheit does not only look back. Between the lines resonates a critique of today’s political and social conditions. At times subtle, at times insistent, the album casts sonic spotlights on the chronicle of life in opposing systems. It is a work that finds expression in moments of rage as well as reflection and, through many small stories – some that happened, others that could have happened – both entertains and provokes thought.

Musically , TENSION CONTROL builds a bridge between the raw roots of classic EBM and a contemporary modernization and evolution of the genre. Electronic Body Music is alive – and capable of much more than nostalgia. Freiheit breathes the raw energy of the old school while pushing the genre forward with modern synthesizers and finely crafted content. Old school meets new sound design, nostalgia meets innovation – a homage to the origins, but also a determined step forward.

EBM remains uncomfortable, allowing itself critical questions and assessments. An album for everyone who takes a stand for their beliefs and has an aggressive T on aus Strom (sound of electricity) in their blood. Freedom is more than music: it is a statement, an echo of times past, a commentary on the present and an impulse for the future of the scene.
