maschinenfest - the festival and it’s related cd editions are both legends in their own right – and can you believe both have gone into their 13th annual edition in 2011? the 2011 edition of maschinenfest is widely regarded as having been one of the best ever by those who were in lucky attendance, by the way. the main strength of maschinenfest and the base of it’s success has always been the ability to move along the course of time and integrate new electronic musical currents and their protagonists into it’s ever-growing roster of performing artists, while always keeping in touch with it’s groundwork of industrial music. this year’s edition features maschinenfest veterans like synapscape, imminent, this morn’ omina, contaminant, empusae, xabec, dazzling malicious and contagious orgasm, returning performers like ahnst anders, spherical disrupted, suicide inside and kirdec, next to festival newcomers like dirk geiger, igorrr, the_empath, atrabilis sunrise, saal 5, 16 pad noise terrorist, mobthrow, balkansky and loop stepwalker, marita schreck and näo. these cover a wide range of broken or straight or even beatless electronic music in various degrees of aggressiveness – just pure eclecticism for you! some recently resurrected musical veterans also made their appearance: wieloryb (rhythm noise), needle sharing (breakbeat/-core) and thorofon (power electronics), and two true cult acts take part in this year’s edition: italy’s pankow and no one lesser than industrial legend lustmord himself. all those appear with exclusive tracks or versions, adding to the ongoing encyclopaedia that the maschinenfest compilations constitute. and while a cd might not be able to represent the special vibe of the festival, it is still a priceless collection, simply mandatory listening!
